I’ll grant just grafting a jet engine onto the bottom of an existing plane is less impressive.

That’s an ugly aircraft.

The Russians built thinks out of necessity, often regardless how it looked or actually performed and often not thoroughly tested. But it worked, not weel or efficiently but worked and was easy to repair.
